Hello!

Happy Wednesday and welcome to my weekly blog post.

Here’s An Elegant Card Anyone Can Make

One of my favorite things about cardmaking is discovering color combinations that look as though they were made for each other. Sometimes I create my own color combinations and other times, I use the product packaging for inspiration. This cheerful floral card is a wonderful example of using product packaging to inspire. I love how how the soft orange and deep rust are paired with rich greens to create a color combination that feels both fresh and elegant.

The soft orange naturally draws the eye and brings warmth, happiness, and optimism to the card. By surrounding those bright blooms with calming shades of green, the flowers become the star while the overall design remains soft, balanced, and easy on the eyes. The crisp white background (one of my favorite design choices) gives everything room to breathe, making the colors appear even more vibrant without feeling busy.

The best part? This beautiful look is surprisingly easy to achieve using just stencils and blending inks. Layering ink through a stencil creates soft transitions of color that give flowers and leaves wonderful depth, while still being beginner-friendly. Add a simple sentiment and a few pearl embellishments, and you have a card that looks polished and sophisticated with very little effort.

Tips for Choosing Beautiful Color Combinations

  • Start with one color you love and choose one or two supporting colors rather than using too many shades.
  • Pair a warm color, like yellow or coral, with a cooler green or blue for natural balance.
  • Include plenty of white space to let your colors shine.
  • Use light, medium, and dark shades of the same color to add dimension and interest.
  • Look to nature for inspiration—flowers, gardens, and changing seasons are full of color combinations that always work beautifully.

Elegant cards don’t have to be complicated. With a few coordinating inks, a stencil, and a little blending, you can create handmade cards that look refined while keeping the process simple and enjoyable.

I hope this card inspires you to experiment with your own favorite color combinations. Have fun playing with color, and remember…the most meaningful cards are the ones made with your own hands.

Easy Instructions

Here are the steps to recreate this lovely card:

  1. Die cut the main panel out of white card stock. I used the third largest die from the Ornamental Lattice die set by Lisa Horton Crafts.
  2. Cut a panel of green card stock to create a 1/8″ border around the main panel. Add the panel to the front of the card base. I used a 5 x 6 1/2 card.
  3. Stencil the image onto the main panel using the Floral Wishes Layering Stencils by Lisa Horton Crafts. I used inks from Lisa Horton Crafts to ink: Willow Forest and Garden Sage for the Leaves, and Gaugain Grapefruit and Rusty Nails for the flowers.
  4. Add the stenciled image to the card front.
  5. Add pearls embellishments to the flower centers.

Happy crafting!
