Story of Elegance

Happy Tuesday to you, my crafting co-horts!

Technogly has surely transformed the way that we communicate, in ways that are good and not-so-good.

I think note-writing is one of the ways that we can diminish some of the not-so-good elements that come with strictly communicating digitally.  One of the biggest drawbacks of digital communication is in its inability to evoke and preserve connections effectively.

A hand-written note is a precious gift from the sender.  It lets you know that time was taken to choose (or even better craft) a note card or paper, and then sit down to share with you.  Having the physical note is a wonderful way to preserve thoughts and communications.  (And they can be kept for future generations to enjoy.)

What happens when you open the mail to find an unexpected note from someone special in life?  For me, it always brings a smile and an audible “awww!”  That’s why I like to write notes, because I want to create that special moment for others that I care for.  Don’t you think everyone likes knowing that they are thought of fondly?  Note writing is a small gesture with a huge and lasting impact.

Today’s card was created specifically as a note card to share with one of the special people in my life.

I used the Inked & Tiled stamp set to create the card I’m sharing with you today.

I paired the new Lost Lagoon ink with Blackberry Bliss for a great color combination.  The new Lost Lagoon Bordered Ribbon and Foam Adhesive Sheets add a little texture and dimension to keep things interesting.

A Closer Look

Elegance Made Easy

Following are the quick steps to recreate this card.

First, make your cuts:

  • Blackberry Bliss card stock – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Basic White card stock – 3 3/4″ x 5″, 3″ x 4 1/4″ and 4″ x 5/14″ (inside)
  • Inked Botanicals DSP – 1 3/8″ x 5″
  • Die cuts:
    • Use the smallest flag die from the Stylish Shapes die set to cut the Just a Note sentiment that has been stamped onto a scrap of Basic White card stock using Blackberry Bliss ink
    • Use the next largest flag die from the Stylish Shapes die set to cut a layering panel for the sentiment.  Note: You will need to cut the panel twice to get the desired length
  • Punches:
    • None

Add the Blackberry Bliss panel to the front of an A2 card base made with Thick Basic White card stock.  (Note: An A2 card base is made by cutting an 8 1/2″ x 11″  piece of Thick card stock in half.  Score and the 5 1/2″ by 8 1/2″  (half sheet) of card stock at 4 1/4 “.)

Layer the DSP strip onto the larger piece of Basic White card stock and add to the Blackberry Bliss panel.

Use Lost Lagoon ink to stamp the background onto the smaller Basic White panel by stamping off the color, then stamp the large flower in the center.

Wrap Lost Lagoon Bordered Ribbon vertically along the left side of the stamped panel and add a knotted bow.

Adhere the stamped panel to the card front using a piece of Foam Adhesive Sheet that has been cut to fit.

Place the two pieces of the sentiment panel onto the card front.

For the inside, I stamped a flower to match.

To complete the project, stamp flowers on the envelope front and add DSP to the  flap to coordinate.
