Blooming with Creativity

There’s just something timeless and comforting about a pretty floral card. Soft blooms, delicate leaves, and gentle colors can instantly brighten someone’s day — and they’re just as enjoyable to create as they are to give!

This elegant birthday card was inspired by the beauty of layered florals and subtle texture. The soft lavender flowers paired with fresh green foliage create a calm, graceful look that feels both cheerful and sophisticated. Adding dimension with layered die cuts and embossed backgrounds helps the florals truly come to life.

One of the real stars of this project is the gorgeous new Inspired by William Morris inks by Lisa Horton Crafts. These inks are wonderfully smooth, creamy, and blend beautifully, making them perfect for achieving soft shading and effortless color transitions on floral images. The muted, nature-inspired tones are ideal for creating cards with a classic and artistic feel.

If you’ve been thinking about trying floral card crafting, consider this your sign to jump in! Floral designs are incredibly versatile, relaxing to create, and always appreciated by the recipient. Whether you love bold blooms or soft pastel petals, there’s no wrong way to let your creativity blossom.

To Create This Card:

  • Ink a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ panel of white cardstock using Sambourne Lily from the Inspired by William Morris line of inks by Lisa Horton Crafts. Ink from the outer edge inward leaving the center nearly white.
  • Dry emboss the inked panel using the March Spring Flowers 3D embossing folder from the 2026 A Year In Bloom embossing folders set by Lisa Horton Crafts. Add the embossed panel to the front of an A2 card base oriented horizontally.
  • Ink a panel of white card stock using Jasmine Sage ink and die cut a frame using the Nested Emerald dies by Lisa Horton Crafts.
  • Use Standen Lilac, Jasmine Sage, Sambourne Lily and Willow Forest inks from the William Morris collection of Matt Blending inks and the Magnolia Stem layering stencils to ink the floral image. Die cut the inked floral using the included outline die.
  • Dry emboss the die cut using the Magnolia Stem 3D embossing folder by Lisa Horton Crafts.
  • Place the embossed floral onto the die cut frame – Add foam squares to the center of the die cut, tuck the base of the floral behind the left bottom corner of the frame, trimming the stem as needed. Add glue to the back of the floral die cut where it touches the frame. Adhere the assembled frame to the card front using foam tape.
  • For the sentiment, use the You Make Me Smile stamp and die from Lisa Horton for Spellbinders. Stamp onton white card stock using Standen Lilac ink and heat emboss using clear embossing powder. Die cut the sentiments and add one of your choosing the the card front using foam strip in the center and glue on the ends.
  • Finish by adding pearl gems around the die cut floral.
