Soft Shades & Timeless Style: William Morris Colors in Card Crafting
Sometimes deciding on a color combination is the biggest barrier to starting a hand-crafted greeting card project. That’s why I love that Lisa Horton Crafts has a monthly color combo. This month the combo uses inks from a line that just launched – Colours Inspired by William Morris Matt Blending Inks. These are a collection of beautiful colors like those shown above and I’m in love!
There’s something so effortlessly elegant about the soft, nature-inspired color palettes often associated with William Morris designs. Muted sage greens, gentle peachy pinks, creamy yellows, and warm floral tones have a way of feeling both vintage and fresh at the same time — which makes them absolutely perfect for card making!
The beautiful combination creates a calming palette that’s easy to work into almost any handmade card design. Whether you’re blending inks for a soft background, layering die cuts, or creating delicate floral accents, these colors work together beautifully without overpowering your project.
One of the best things about using these softer Morris-inspired shades is how versatile they are. A touch of sage green instantly adds a natural, grounded feel, while warm rose florals bring softness and charm. Add crisp white layers and a bold sentiment, and suddenly a simple card looks polished and elegant with very little effort.
These ink colors also make it easy to create cards that feel thoughtful and uplifting — perfect for friendship cards, thank you notes, encouragement cards, or cheerful everyday greetings. Sometimes all it takes is the right color combination to spark creativity!
And honestly… who can resist a card that practically smiles back at you?
To Create This Card:
- Ink a large panel of white cardstock using Willow Forest Ink from the Inspired by William Morris line of inks by Lisa Horton Crafts.
- Use the large bracket die from the CompositionsSet G – Square Brackets Craft Dies by Lisa Horton Crafts to die cut a bracket from the inked panel. Add to a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel of white cardstock.
- Add the panel to a 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ panel of black cardstock and then to the front of an A2 card base.
- Die cut florals with the Gorgeous You Florals by Spellbinders from white cardstock and ink using inks from the May Colour Combo.
- For the sentiment, use the You Make Me Smile dies from Lisa Horton for Spellbinders. Cut the large shadow die in black card stock and the letters from white card stock and partially ink with Pimpernel Rose ink.
- Assemble the sentiment die cuts and add to card front.
- Arrange and adhere the inked floral die cuts around the sentiment.
- Finish by adding Onyx Color Essential Gems by Spellbinders around the die cut florals.
